Mandarin Oranges

February 16, 2008 | 1 Comment

During Chinese New Year, mandarin oranges are part of the celebration. Mandarin Orange in Cantonese is called “kam” that means “gold” and symbolizes prosperity or good fortune. When Chinese visit one another, they will give mandarin oranges and it must be given in pairs.

This year those smaller mandarin oranges are very sweet. It is much more delicious that the bigger ones. The good thing is that it has no seed. You can easily pop 2 or 3 in your mouth. However do not eat too much of it as it is “heaty” and you may get a bad throat. If you haven’t tasted it, do get a basketful.
