Today Phishing comes in many forms. Be aware of it and never fall into the trap. When I first discovered phishing, it was in the form of email. The email will ask you to go to certain site which the sender will make you think that it is legitimate.
An example would be an email from your personal bank asking you to update your personal information in the bank site. The site will have the bank logo, the same look and exactly the same functions. But the URL is different from the usual. If you update any personal information like login and password, you will fall in the trap and may lose money over it. To avoid, do check the URL and make sure it is really legitimate.
Second type of phishing is through SMS where they send you a SMS saying you won a million dollars. In order to get 1 million prize money, you need to deposit a few thousand to their bank account. Don’t be greedy even if they claim that they are from reputable company. Do check with the stated company by calling their company hotlines and not the contact in the SMS.
Third type of phishing is through phone where someone called you up, saying that they are your bank officer. They want to do bank maintenance and they will fish for confidential information. Do not give them any login or password! Better still, do not give them any information but take his/her name and contact. Call back the bank and check the references.
Beware of Phishing, they are out there to get U!
Can you be too optimist? The other day I wrote a feedback to a local D telco company, telling them there are too many menu options with their call directories and no direct options to reach an agent. I went through their list of options and no options to report a fraud. Don’t you think a fraud is important?! Or they are aware of it but there is nothing they can do about it.
You see I receive a SMS spam saying I won 20,000 00 from telco. I realized it was a spam and wanted to report it. However after calling their service line, I gave up. I tried their company website instead which was much easier.
I reported a fraud and gave a feedback of their lousy helpdesk service.
The reply of my feedback came back:
“Thank you for your feedback on the Interactive Voice Response(IVR) service. Be rest assured that your compliments will be escalated to the relevant management for review and it will be taken into consideration for future development in line with our continuous effort for customer satisfaction.”
Since when did I compliment them? Hrmm….
A. Are they being too optimist, taking every issues as a compliment?
B. Are they just generating the same message for any customer feedback? Like a robot with no personal touch, just like their Interactive Voice Response.
C. They don’t know the meaning of “compliments”.
D. Just making themselves feel good???!!! If they treat all issues as compliments, that will be a good performance, right…..WRONG!
My advice to any company wants to use an automated receptionist:
I have been reading a few scams that are happening in Malaysia. Honestly, people fall into these scam because of one word “greed”. The focus on all these scams has to do with money. They allure you with an illusion of wealth, being blinded by it, you will do anything to get it. Example, you will pay to get that illusion.
The most common ones are get rich quick scheme or you won a huge amount of money as prize scam. It is so common, most people know about it but there are still people falling for it. Stay away from greed and spread the word around so that no more tragic cases. It can happen to just anyone.
A friend of mine, her father fell in to a scam where by the con artist attracted him with a medical solution to help his wife. He fell in the trance and he didn’t know what happened. When he woken up by it, he saw that his money in the bank were withdraw using ATM. Bottom line, scam can come in various manner, be alert to spot them.
Read in Kenny Sia’s blog on it, with English subtitle and another recorded scam conversation in Mandarin here.
Be contended and stay away from “greed”.
