When you talk about SFO, you will think of Golden Gate Bridge. It is the landmark. I am glad I drove on it. I will try to take a picture when I drive back.
I went to Fisherman Wharf by taking the famous cable car on land. It cost US11 for a day pass and you can hop on or off anytime. You got to taste the clam chowder which is thick and delicious, plenty of clams. On a cold day, it is the best thing to warm your body up.
Of coz, THAT is the place for seafood. Look at the gigantic lobster and crab. I had the combination seafood and it was great. Along the road, there are plenty of souvenir shops. The thing with these shops is to do a price survey. I noticed that one shop offer 5.99 for an item, if you walk further down, it cost 2.99.
There were many shops on sale like GAP, Victoria Secrets, Macy..etc. However most of the items were winter clothing which is not suitable for Penang weather. Oh I got a little gadget, a digital photo frame. Yeah yeah yeah…I am a shopaholic. Vien already prepared a box for me to bring stuff back. Hey I can bring 2x32kg back.
By the way, I walk into Victoria Secrets and I came out empty handed. My hubby will be greatly disappointed.
White Rabbit Creamy Candy is banned in Philippines for containing a potential cancer causing chemical called formaldehyde. It is reported in TodayOnline. It is really shocking news to me. When I was young, I love eating it. My children love it too. I even have some in my refrigerator and had to throw it into the bin.
The manufacturer claims that the sweets were counterfeit in Philippines. Wow, it is a crazy world that someone actually counterfeit sweets? What’s the money there? Anyway, Agri-food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) is doing further test on it. Until and unless, it is clear, I will not touch those sweets. By the way, it is not only the sweets that the Philippines authority removes from its stores but several other made-in-China products. It really tells us something. There are more alarming findings here.
After my thyroid case, I try to improve my health, not that I am unhealthy but I am not getting any younger. Recently I heard 5 cancer cases among my dear friends. It is sort of an alert for me to take good care of my health.
Few months ago as I was browsing around MPH book shop, I picked up this book called “What your doctor doesn’t know about nutritional medicine may be killing you.” It was a good read and opens my eyes a little on supplements. I have always been told if I eat nutritiously, my body is able to capture all the nutrition and vitamins I need. However, as my little body grows old and due to work stress, sometimes it doesn’t function a 100% in absorbing the nutrients I need. Therefore, I need to take supplements. I don’t take it all the time, I only take it when I need it, usually when I have lack of sleep, menstrual cycle day and when I am faced with lots of stress.
Back to the book, the book talks about people with serious disease such as cancer, stroke, diabetes, heart disease and many more. It teaches me what supplements are good for what? The writer who is a doctor himself mentioned lots of unhealthy medication for serious disease that can kill you. It may work to cure your disease but the side effects will kill you. Taking the optimal amount of certain supplements can help fight disease if you have to take nasty medication such as chemotherapy. You need to consult a doctor for the right prescription but often doctor who is not into nutritional medication will oppose to it.
Do you know that you need 7 daily servings of vegetables and fruits? I love eating vegetables especially salad. Funny, I do crave for it every now and then. I love to cut celery and carrots into sticks, keep it in my fridge. Whenever my teeth wanna chew something, I will chew that. I love every kind of vegetables and fruits. I was thinking of investing on a good juicer (Jack Lalanne Power Juicer) but my hubby will say “You probably use it once and then will leave it there collecting dust”. Yeap he knows me so well.
Above all, I need to thank God for taking care of me and my family. I once asked my hubby, if he knew he has terminal illness and only a few months of life what will he do. He told me that he will spend time with the family and he will meditate on God’s word. He said he will be thrill to be call home to meet God. How true. Life does not end in death.
Now this is the real burger. I love the whopper burger, it is made with meat, mayonnaise, lettuce, tomato, ketchup, onion, cheese and pickle on a sesame seed roll. The thing I like about this burger is that it has lots of vegetables and juicy too. This is much better than the last shot of a pathetic burger I took.
After that, they crown my little gal and boy to be king and queen. I am still waiting for Burger King to make it to Penang, any takers?
Our department went on an eating spree again. We had a team building event yesterday. The program was paintball and after that a buffet dinner. I didn’t go for the paintball because the paintball management requests the players to sign a disclaimer. As a mother of 2, I didn’t want to risk that as signing the disclaimer would mean no insurance coverage at all. Yes, I know that paintball is safest game but I just hate signing disclaimers. The best part is not paint ball, it is of coz the FOOD. Tao, funny name for a Japanese fuse with Asian style cuisine, has buffet style, eat all you can. It doesn’t have a buffet table. You order as much as you want and they serve from the menu. You can order endless time as long as you finish all the food. It is RM50 inclusive tax and service charge.
They serve great Japanese food. We ordered so much and I think some guys sat until supper time and were still eating. Imagine we started at 6pm. They have all kinds of Japanese food, you name it, they have it. It is pork free. We had tempura, sashimi, sushi, terayaki, unagi, clams, kimchi and lots more that I cannot remember. Eating in a big group has it advantages because you can order everything and try a little here and there. Drinks are free too. The restaurant is in EGate, near Tesco. If you want to go, do go at 6pm if you do not want to wait a long time.
Look at the pictures and drool…
Last Saturday evening it was raining cats and dogs which was cooling evening for my family to have bbq with steamboat. I always run out of places to eat in Penang, yeah it is true. If you come here once a while, you probably find more choices. Anyway the bbq was very good. An adult cost RM18. My children were not charged at all. They have marinated fish, chicken, seafood, vegetables, a variety of fish balls, noodles and bean curds. Free flow of barley drink and ice cream for dessert. The place is opposite of ex-Macro, near Pelita nasi kandar store.
They placed the table outside but sheltered, with cooling breeze blowing. The children were fascinated with the bbq plate. However they didn’t eat much, only noodles and fish balls, of coz they wipe the ice-cream bowl clean. After the scrumptious meal, we had to go home and shower, the oily smell really sticks on to our clothes, hair and body.
My 2 favourite dish:
My department has a mini celebration and we had a scrumptious meal at Equatorial TheView. It has a view of the BJ Golf Course and part of Penang. We had limited choice in Penang for Lunch Buffet, not as many as KL. We also need to choose somewhere nearby. The meal, no words can express. You have to see it yourself. I love Oysters, look at those oysters on the bar. Someone joked that we have to calculate how many oysters we consume to breakeven the cost of the meal. The buffet had different salads, soup, different seafood, smoked salmon, lots of delicious dessert. Then there is the main course. After the meal, it was so difficult to concentrate with my work. Fortunately time flies through and it was 5:30pm.
I loved to eat Yee Sang. Yee Sang means raw fish and in CNY terms, if you read it backwards (Sang Yee) meaning business. It is a mixture of salad and raw fish with sour plum sauce. Usually Chinese gathered around to toss the salad up high. The higher you tossed, your business will have more profitable and successful, and that is the Chinese belief. You are not allowed to say negative things while tossing. Once my cousins utter “It is so difficult to toss” Everyone looked at him. Opps, meaning the business will be difficult. Oh well, I believe no such myth, I just like the dish.
There are not many restaurants that served good Yee Sang here. Now I can get it from Jusco Penang. Jusco used to sell it at the Sushi counter, next to the Japanese stuff. I believed the imported salmon are in big portion and fresh.
The dish consisted of Yew sang (Raw Fish) – main ingredient, peanut, green kua ying, yellow ginger, red ginger, sliced yam, pok choy, pickled leeks, sweetened lime, sesame seed and gourd wax. There are other versions of it, I have eaten some with apples or with white radish or with Japanese jellyfish. I am starting early this year, not that I own a business. :good:
However I am not sure whether it is new or what, the service sucks big time. It is slow and takes forever for the food to come. My hubby’s order never arrived. We follow up with the waitress 4 times. At last one waitress came, after 30 minutes, told us that the beef ran out and asked us to change to chicken. We asked them, how long would that take. She said another 30 minutes. My hubby decided to cancel it. She could have told us early that they were short of beef.
The food, it was ok, nothing special. I must say they have quite a lot of variety on their menu. They served children’s menu in special tray, like aeroplane, bus or train. However the children menu is not suited to children’s taste.
Price, as pricey as all the Japanese restaurant here.
Eating The Japanese Way
There is a Japanese pancake store in Jusco Queensbay mall Penang. My children is fascinated with that store. It has machinery displaying how the little pancake is made. My children stared at it from start to finish. The pancake comes in different option of fillings like jam, peanut butter, red bean, chocolate and kaya. It cost RM1.30 for a piece. My children loved it.
