Every time I worked late in the night, I will go hungry. Yeap, it is my high metabolic rate that I do go hungry fast on certain days of the month. I just want to chew something. Sometimes I will have chopped carrots to chew on. Other times it will be unhealthy junk food.
Today I got a pack of marukku, an Indian type of snack. It is tasty, crunchy and some actually are spicy. It is made out of flour, urad bean and flavorings. At least it keeps me awake at night.
That’s delicious in Korean. I loved Korean food especially the different types of side dishes called banchan. Side dishes such as Kimchi, spinach salad, glazed potatoes, cucumber pickles and others.
I went to a nice Korean Restaurant called Arirang @ 11-G-1&2 Jalan Gottieb (aka new Bob Center) Penang. The atmosphere of the place is good with a small room of toys and books for the children to play while we dine.
My family ordered the Kimchi soup based vegetables set, bbq pork, the fried glass noodles and the ginseng chicken. The bbq pork was really tasty. They provided a free flow of Korean tea. You can also ordered the beef where they bbq on the spot. It has lots of side dishes that come with what we ordered. The Kimchi soup was a little too sourish and spicy. It can be very acidic to your tummy. My advice, eat some rice to fill your stomach before attempting the Kimchi soup.
I will recommend this place to anyone who is visiting Penang. The owner is a Korean and you get authentic Korean food. It is simply delicious. Enjoy the pictures.
After a tired & stressful day at work, I came home with this delicious treat. Thanks to shooi who was so kind to bring some of her mother’s specialty for me. Pork Leg Vinegar is usually cooked as a confinement food. It has ginger, pork leg & meat, vinegar, dry chilies and I believe sugar. The ginger is good to relieve air from your body.
I had my confinement lady cooked this for me once every week. No matter how big a pot she cooked, it is always finished. I loved to eat it with warm rice. It taste so good and you can drink the sauce too. Although it is vinegar but it is not too sour. It is simply delicious.
If you ever cooked this, please invite me. 😛
I am craving for the Aussie Chinese food every since I left Australia. I have been staying there for 5 years and I love every moment of it. When I am there, I get home sick too.
The Chinese food especially in Sydney is simply delicious. Most of the big Hong Kong chef migrated and start their business there. The seafood like scallops, abalone, king crabs and oysters were the best I ever tasted. If I ever go back there, I will sure spend myself a scrumptious meal.
During my studies there, I always brought back some huge abalone whenever I came home for summer break. It is really big. I remembered when I was a secondary student, I told my teacher that I ate a big abalone, she wouldn’t believe me. Abalone at that time was affordable. My mom will cook something delicious with the abalone.
Recently I got my friend to bring me some abalone back which I missed. With abalone, you need to know how to cook it. If it is not cook properly, it will become like rubber. You need to tenderize it. It can be cook with any vegetables like broccoli. You can also make double boil chicken soup with it. It is simply my favorite.
If any of you coming back from there, please bring me some more abalone!
Tbowl has an extraordinary interior deco for its restaurant. Most people will not use a toilet bowl concept to decorate an eating place. But not for Tbowl. They have successfully attracted customers with toilet bowl. No joke.
Yeap, the seats are all toilet bowls and even the food is served in toilet bowls. The tables are sinks which is covered with a piece of glass. You can see walls with shower outlet. My little gal wanted to shower there too if the shower works.
As for food, there is not much specialties. I was quite disappointed with it, as many food choices that were in the menu are not available. It was very pricey too from RM10-RM15. If you have not eaten out from a toilet bowl before, you should try. Believe me, there isn’t a tint of toilet smell at all. It is in Penang Queensbay mall, next to Golden Screen Cinema.
Baskin Robins has 31% discount on every 31st of any month that have 31 days. Today is 31st March and boy there was a big crowd in any Baskin Robins chain. I just got a tub today within 1 minute. Oooh I cannot wait to taste the World Class Chocolate & Tiramisu. Hey if you know any other good choice, do comment.
Do you want to know how to walk in, walk out of Baskin Robins without waiting and still get your ice-cream?
All you have to do is to pre-book your ice-cream a few days before 31st. You can tell the sales people what ice-cream you want and what size. You have to pay with 31% discount and get your receipt. When 31st arrive, walk in and collect your ice-cream. It is simple and save a lot of time.
Avoid those people who could not decide what they want and tried to taste every box of ice-cream there are. Avoid those people who like to jump queue. Avoid those people who want this and that, asking 101 questions. Be smart!
During Chinese New Year, mandarin oranges are part of the celebration. Mandarin Orange in Cantonese is called “kam” that means “gold” and symbolizes prosperity or good fortune. When Chinese visit one another, they will give mandarin oranges and it must be given in pairs.
This year those smaller mandarin oranges are very sweet. It is much more delicious that the bigger ones. The good thing is that it has no seed. You can easily pop 2 or 3 in your mouth. However do not eat too much of it as it is “heaty” and you may get a bad throat. If you haven’t tasted it, do get a basketful.
Chinese New Year Reunion Dinner is very important to a Chinese family. It is a time where every one from the family gathered to have a peaceful dinner together. We come together to catch up with one another. My mom always prepared great dishes for the occasion. I always looked forward to go back to taste my mom’s cooking.
However being married, I have to go to my in-laws home for reunion dinner. Thanks to my hubby and his family, I can have reunion dinner in my parent’s home every alternate year.
As usual, my mom will have lots of dishes until it covers the entire table. The meals are eaten over a few days. A few of my favorite dishes is the Mushroom Stew, Fatt Choy Abalone and the Sourish Vegetables (Asam Chai Boi). It is certainly a scrumptious meal.

Fatt Choy Abalone
I heard so much about the 2 Kuala Lumpur donut shops where people queue to buy it. I went to the Curve Big Apple to get a dozen of my own. I went there during the night time and there wasn’t any queue. How fortunate. A donut cost RM2 per piece. It is cheaper if you get ½ dozen or a dozen.
I really love it at the first bite of the Big Apple donut. The donut is really soft and the toppings melt in the mouth. I have sweet tooth so it really taste good. However for those who doesn’t like sweet things, maybe you may not like it.
A few days later, I went to Pavilion lower ground floor to try out J.CO donut. The toppings are almost the same as Big Apple but it has more selections. Yes, there was a queue but I could get a box within 15 minutes. If you do not want to queue, you can go to the drink counter and pick up a dozen right away. However, you cannot make any selection.
Overall, I like Big Apple’s donut because of the soft base. J.CO’s topping is not as sweet. J.CO is also cheaper. By the way, both donut shops, the donut is made fresh on the spot. Now it makes DD taste really bad.
If you come to Penang, please bring me these donuts. Yummy….
Recommendations: Tiramisu, Al Capone, JCrown Almond.
Pho is a Vietnamese rice-noodle soup. It is pronounce as ”FA” listen.
I got to know Pho when I set foot in US. I remembered my husband brought us to a place called Ranch 99. I was really shocked by the size of the bowl they serve the noodle in. It is huge with the diameter of almost 1 foot. I love it ever since. On top of that, they also give a plateful of bean sprout and basil. I didn’t like basil then but I acquire the taste and now I like it.
Now every time I set foot in US, I will sure to eat a bowl Pho. Vien took me to another Pho called Pho 54 in Stevens Creek. It was really good and it comes with a juicy story. Look Belle loves it too! I wished someone open a Pho in Penang with the same quality.
