I seldom get sick and I have a couple of health tips to share. I believed it has something to do with my garden. First tip to avoid sore throat and flu, is to chew basil leaves. I chew a couple of basil leaves every day. I plated lots of basil in my garden. I tell you, it is better than any sore throat candy you can find in the store.
Second tip is to eat mulberry. Yeap a good friend gave us some mulberry cuttings to plant. Now the mulberry tree cannot stop bearing fruits. Mulberries have lots of vitamin C and anti-oxidants. I heard it can prevent stroke too.
Lastly is drink more water and do exercise. I usually exercise when I work in the garden. It involved pruning plants, weeding and plant more herbs. Great way to make the environment better!
Someone gave my family some mulberry shoots to plant my garden. Within weeks, it started to grow. I am glad that I have a mulberry tree in my garden and I love eating those mulberries.
A tip to get your mulberry to fruit, let it grow about 10 feet and start pruning it. A day after you prune it, the tree will fruit. Not just a few but a lot of fruits. Try it.
I got some heart shape mulberries too. By the way, wait for the mulberry to turn dark purple so that it will be sweet.
If you are traveling and no one is at home to water your plants. You can do this.
Take a piece of unwanted cotton cloth and cut it into strips. Take a container with cover. The cover is to prevent any mosquito laying eggs into the water. Fill the container with water. Dip one end of the strip into the water and the other end, into the soil. It will absorb the water into the soil. Hope this tip helps your plants to get water even when you are not around.
Lately it has been raining very heavily in my garden. Some plants were drowning with water. I notices the leaves started to turn yellow. It is not a very good sign.
Sometimes we do not know how much to water and if we water too much, the soil become over damp. It will cause the root to rot or create fungus. The moisture meter is a very good measuring gadget to test if the soil is dry, just right or too wet. It is very easy to use. All you have to do is to poke it into the soil and the indicator will let you know.
Next I will be getting a PH meter too! Cannot wait for the parcel to arrive!
I really dislike those slugs, they destroy some of my plants. I have so many of them in my garden. Someone told me to use beer to get rid of them. When I heard that, I went out to get beer.
I get some small container and filled it with beer. The pungent smell of beer does attract them. When they drink, I believed they will fall inside the container and get drown. It works really well. I managed to catch 15-20 slugs altogether using 3 containers.
However this trick can only be done once. I tried the next day, the catch is not that many. I must try when the slugs have forgotten about it.
Not that I dislike cats but cats and garden do not go together. Often I see strayed cats coming into my garden and start to use my garden bed or planter box as their litter box. My plants are affected by it. First they trampled on my plants and their litter destroys the soil PH. A few of my plants died because of these stray cats.
I learn a natural way to keep them away. I use diluted vinegar and spray it at the pots of the side of the garden beds. They dislike the smell and they will not come near it. You have to spray it once a week to keep them away. So far it works!
