I was given a mission to set a day to make the kids happy. I had to build a mini fun fare for children. Due to low budget, I had to use recycle materials. I was pretty pleased that I came up with 7 games for the kids to have fun.
I think the kids had fun with these games. If you are organizing an event for children, you can use these ideas too.
Game 1: Throwing Rings on to the nails
Game 2: Tossing Coins on to square boxes
Game 3: Tic Tac Toe (Tossing Ping Pong balls into the plastic cups)
Game 4: Darts
Game 5: Shooting Balls Into Holes
Game 6: Hitting The Cans With Balls
Game 7: Tossing coins into the cup submerge in water.
Hong Kong Disneyland is divided into 4 main sections: Main Street, USA, Adventureland, Fantasyland and Tomorrowland.
You can visit the website for the daily schedule of the events, parade and fireworks. It changes from time to time. You can also get a schedule at the ticket counter. When I went there, the parade was at 3:30pm and fireworks were at 7pm. Park hours are from 10am – 7pm.
If you stayed in any of the hotels in Disneyland, you can get 2 days park ticket for the price of 1. You can also purchase Annual park ticket to get about 30% discounts on hotel rates on weekdays.
Last tip, never get those over priced big balloons. Even if you have to get it, purchase it at the end of the day. You do not want to carry it around and you may not take it with you at certain rides. You cannot bring it on any aircraft too unless you deflate it.
Main Street USA
Hong Kong Disneyland Railroad – A train ride that will bring you round Disneyland. You can get an overview of the entire Disneyland. It will make a stop at Fantasyland. I found that the queue in Fantasyland is shorter than the Main Street. You can ride as many times as you like.
Main Street Vehicle – It is a double-decker mini bus where you can cruise up and down Main Street with it.
Shopping area – Most of the souvenirs shops are at the Main Street. You can get glass with a cartoon character and craft your name on it.
Adventure Land
Shows: Festival of the Lion King – You must watch this. It is a superb musical performance of the story of Lion King. Great singing, dancing and filled with action.
Rafts to Tarzan’s Treehouse – You can ride the raft to cross the river to Tarzan Treehouse. There is quite a queue to ride the raft.
Tarzan Treehouse – Climb up on top of the Tarzan Treehouse to get a good view. There are interactive musical instrument that you can experiment with. Of coz you need to ride the raft to get back across.
Jungle River Cruise – Cruise around the river and discovered many surprises. You may get wet or burned in this ride. Watch out for the long queue. There are 2 queues, one in English and one in Cantonese. I found that the English queue was shorter. Must ride.
Tomorrowland
Show: Stitch Encounter – An interactive show with Stitch. We went twice because my gal wanted Stitch to ask her name. Both times she was disappointed. You will be asked to help Stitch to escape. It is very fun. Not much of a queue but it is a great experience.
Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters – An arcade type of ride where you are given laser guns to shoot at target points as you ride around. You can even adjust your seating to twirl around. At the end, you can check out your scores. It is a very exciting ride and I almost reach ranking L4. We went a couple of times as there was no queue.
Autopia – Electronic cars ride that you can stir on the track. Even my four year old can drive, how cool is that. Watch out for the queue. We have to wait 20 mins.
Space Mountain – A high speed ride like a roller coaster. Minimum height must be above 102cm. Not for folks with heart conditions.
Orbitron – A flying saucer ride where you can adjust your height as you go in circle.
UFO Zone – Water play to cool off. Good for younger children. Beware of getting wet.
Fantasyland
Show: The Golden Mickeys – The show was alright with cartoon characters dancing.
Show: Mickey’s PhilharMagic – 3D show that you must see. It is a magical journey. Try catching the jewels and food with your hand. Watch out for water spray too and flying Donald!
It’s A Small World – This is my favorite ride and it is new! You can see many culture, costume and colors. It is very well design. Must ride. Beside the beautiful dancing dolls, you can smell the nice fragrant too. The only part I didn’t like was, it is a long walk from the entrance to the ride. There is no short cut, bad design. I think I made 7 to 8 turns.
Dumbo, the flying elephant – Similar to Orbitron where you ride on a flying elephant.
Cinderella Carousel – Merry go round
Fantasyland Train Station – You can hop on to the train to go around Disneyland.
Sleeping Beauty Castle – Here is where you take beautiful shots of the castle and where the firework display is. Try to get a good spot away from the castle for nice shots of the fireworks.
Fantasy Garden – Photo taking with your favorite Disney cartoon. We got hold of Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Goofy, Winnie The Pooh but missing Donald. Where is Donald?
Mad Hatter Tea Cups – Riding on a cup and going in circles. You can twirl around faster by turning the table. I would suggest that you do not get up and walk immediately. You may fall down after the turning.
The Many adventure of Winnie the Pooh – A journey to help Pooh find honey. Children adore this ride. Remember to smile as you approach the mirror as Winnie will take a picture of you. The picture will be display at the exit where you can order.
Here are some videos on the fantastic time I have in Hong Kong Disneyland. Hope you enjoy it too!
It’s A Small World
Ribena is giving free berry soft toys. I got 2 big bottles just to get Mr.Chef and Mr.Policeman for my children. I think they are cuties. When it comes to cute freebies, I cannot resist. Sometimes I rather buy things that come with freebies than without. Mummies out there who did buy Ribena for the soft toy, raise your hands. :shoot: I am sure those haven’t and read my blog will do so. 😆
Look another 2 cute Japanese dolls soap liquid pump from Shokubutsu range. It has been sitting my shelf, collecting dust. It sure looks cute. Anyway I quite like the body soap. After using, I find my skin feels softer. My back of my arm used to be dry and rough. Now it feels different.
Keep me update if you hear of any freebies.
Barnyard was humorous with a plenty of actions to keep the children excited throughout the movie. The show talk about a heresy cow named Otis who wanted to run away from his responsibilities. However he cannot run far when his responsibilities catch up to him. His father Ben was the leader of the barn and took care of all the animals, protecting them from harm. However one night, while he was protecting some chickens from the hungry wild coyotes, he lost his life. Otis had to take over. Otis never wanted to become a leader, he wanted a fun life and love to party all night. All had to change when he was faced with it.
I must say the movie was done in a very creative manner and lots of surprises. The plot was predictable, hero saves the day kind of plot. It works for the children.
Let me introduce you to Sticker Books that I got from Times Bookstore in Changi Airport. It is great for children at the age of 2 and above. Basically it teaches children to find the right shape and paste the sticker there plus lots of information about a certain topic. It also have free pasting. The book comes with over 200 reusable stickers. What I like about this book is that the pages are glossy, stickers can be reused. You can pull out the sticker again and stick on a different page, while the glue lasts.
The one I got for Tim have more information on military technology. It has information on fire trucks, police operations, military air planes and rescue team info. Great for learning! The book costs SGD12.90
Another book that I got, this one is from MPH with discount of 30% for members, it is called paper doll books. The books come with 6 paper dolls and many type of paper clothing plus accessories. You can dress the dolls with each different style like wedding style, princess style, dancing clothes, ballerina etc etc.. It will be more fun for the gals.
I remembered when I was young, I used to draw the dolls and clothes for the dolls to play. Now it comes in a book. However with the book, it can never stop you from designing more clothes for the paper dolls. The book cost RM16.90.
P/S The photo shots are not very good because it is taken from a camera phone. Hubby is busy now a days and I accidentally broke his lens. Thank God, he got that fix for free.
I got these towels for my children when I was in Singapore. Both my children loved it. Every bath time, they want to be mermaid or buzz. Sometimes they exchange. At least now, they don’t run around naked after bath time.
I was awarded with some gift vouchers for one of my project. I went for a shopping spree. I found Disney’s tees on sale. It is dirt cheap, only RM7.90 per piece. The sleeveless ones are RM5 per piece. The usual price is RM 15.90. If you were there, you can spot me grabbing it all. :giggles: Too bad, they only have size of age 1-3. It is all for Emily. She will be very happy to see all of them.
I got some tickets to watch Disney On Ice over the weekends. Thanks to my friend who could get me 25% discount for the tickets. Tim was very eager to watch the show. He kept saying, he want to see Mickey Mouse, Buzz Lightyear and Incredibles which will be appearing. Every time, we pass by the poster, he will tell mummy he want to go watch.
The day came, we watched the 1 pm show, first show in Penang. Fortunately we went to see the first show, because later show have to wait outside the door for the previous show people to clear before they can entered. Imagine the hot sun.
The show was great, I enjoyed every bit of it. Emily didn’t. She slept through Act 1 and cried during Act 2. Probably she was too sleepy or hungry. She didn’t eat much at lunch time and mummy didn’t bring enough food to keep her happy. 😡
Anyway, it was not a big crowd. I would say 50% of the stadium was filled. My hubby took 200 shots, and here are a few for you to enjoy. I will certainly bring them to watch it again. By the way, I spend quite a bit to get those overprices souvenirs for Tim & Emily. The program book already cost RM30.
It was a great performance with a variety of fairy tales. I felt like I was in fairy tale land or in Disneyland. The stunts were ok, a few flips and twist. Music and dialogues were recorded. The program:
Act One
Overture
Goofy and the Zamboni
Aladdin
Finding Nemo
Beauty & the Beast
Classic Princesses
Toy Story
It’s a Small World
Act Two
Mickey Leads the Band
Pinocchio
Mulan
The Incredibles
The Lion King
Finale
For those who have boys at home, I would recommend you get this parenting VCD. It teaches you how to raise boys, not that you don’t already know. It enhances your skills I suppose. It is conducted by the famous Dr. James Dobson from Focus on the Family.
In part 1, he tells you why boys are different to girls. I quote “Boys are different from girls physiologically, emotionally and socially. The series begins with Dr. Dobson examining how God designed boys. These masculine traits can often irritate and confound parents but were intended to be enjoyed and celebrated – as well as molded and “civilized.”
It is a 60 minutes show and plenty of good illustrations. It cost RM19.90 per VCD and RM200.00 for the whole series. I enjoyed part 1 & part 7 and I will get the entire series.
In first part of the series, it tells you how boys are created differently, even from the making in the womb. How the testosterone floods the womb and this hormonal bath alters the way boy’s brain are structure in many ways. The connections between the two hemispheres of the brain are actually damaged. As a result, boys have a harder time integrating and articulating what they know, feel and believe. Boys and Girls are different.
How many of you find that when you are talking to your husband and he is not listening? Men/Boys have the ability to filter things that they do not want to hear. I often find that true. Dr James Dobson has one very useful method, is when you want to communicate something important to your boy/hubby, touch him with yr hand and look him in the eye, you will get his full attention.
One illustration he gave, a father who tried to make his son drink milk and he refused. He asked him 7 times and he refused. Later the father thought that he has a competitive characteristic in him. He told the son, let’s compete and see who drinks the fastest. He divided the milk into 2 glasses and on the count of 3, both finished the milk. Next the son told the father, let’s make it 2 out of 3 wins. Parents do need to be creative, these days.
Have fun with it.
Penang has the largest toy museum in Asia. It has over 100,000 figurines, toys and models of a variety of characters in the toy world. If you step in and admired every single toy, it will take you days. It is located in Tanjung Bungah, very close to the Copthorne Orchid Hotel. Opens from 9am to 9pm daily. Entrance Fees are RM10 per adult and RM6 per child. It is a great place to visit if you are here.
The toys ranges from Star Wars, Lord of the rings, all action figures like Superman, Spideman, Ultraman, Batman, Incredible Hulk, Toys Story, Chicken Little, Barbie, Disney Characters, Harry Potter and some horror characters too.
