Lanterns & mooncake festival is coming. You can tell, as the shopping mall is decorated with beautiful lanterns and selling mooncakes. I bought 2 traditional lanterns (baby & fish) for my children. Not the battery operated ones with noisy music. Every year without fail, my FIL will get those for my children. I still have the past years lantern that he bought and it is still in working condition. Now they have butterfly, dragon fly, flower basket and ultraman.
I love playing traditional lanterns. You lit up the candles and switched off all the lights. It is very beautiful. When I was young, I love playing with candles. You know what I did? I use can candles with my masak-masak set made of aluminum to cook rice. I will put a candle in between 2 match box, fill the masak masak pot with rice and water, put the pot to sit on the match box and let the candle heat up the pot to boil the water to cook rice. Isnβt that amazing? I was only 5 years old.
Here are some pictures of the beautiful lit up lanterns at my front porch.
My son picked a butterfly lantern and I picked a baby for my gal…
I have been playing lantern with my girl the past 2 days…In my taman, we are the only ones playing lantern…boring hor! Dun care, I oso want to buy more lanterns to hang around my gate like u. I oso preferred the traditional ones. Wah u can cook rice some more – ur mother din scold ar?. Last time, I like to melt all the candles to make balls and other shapes for fun but not as young as 5 yo lah.
I like to decorate my outside with paper lanterns and light up all the candles, this is the first year that my son is “smart enough” to play with the lantern. I like to buy the traditional lantern instead of those “commercialize” lanterns for my son.
Annie: When i was young (forgot how old), i liked to play the wax also, hehehe, i was not so creative, everytime only know how to make balls.
very nice lanterns… maybe I should go buy some too and hang them for Ivan to gawk at… but knowing his itchy hands no such luck…

Very nice pictures, took by your hubby too? The baby lantern is very nice.
When I was small, I also played real masak (damaged kitchenware), cook with fire and choped all the grass & flowers, leaves to cook. There was once my mother leave me alone in the house with the door lock and she went out, I think I was playing with the gas stove (can’t remember the details) and our wooden house caught with fire, luckily my neighbour uncle heard my cried and come to rescue me, otherwise would become barbecue pid liao, I can’t remember the details but I could still remember the guys who come to rescue me and all the burn stuff. I was 3 yrs old back then.
Annie, HuiSia, Sue: Hey make sure no rain, I don’t want your lanterns soaking wet.
Twinsmom, Jefferene: Thanks. My hubby is the photographer with his huge camera. I only know how to point and click.
Lin: Thanks and nice of you to drop by π .
Jasmine: Send some free mooncakes here…yum yum π . I like the ping pei one.
Jefferene: Wah, I didn’t know you are that adventurous, now children don’t do what aunty Jefferene did ok. My time, no gas stove yet, my family use kerosene or charcoal stove to cook. Lighting that out is a real hassle. I remembered my brother almost fire up the kitchen while cooking maggi noodles.
