Kiru meaning to cut and gami meaning paper. Kirigami is a variation of origami. Origami is folding of paper. Kirigami is an art of folding and cutting paper into a myriad of interesting designs. I got this Kirigami hobby pack from Times Bookstore in Changi Airport. As you know I like hobby which involve hands. It is fun as you can cut many different patterns, animals, ribbons and etc. You can keep the pattern papers for card making, gift wrapping, stenciling and scarpbooking. I like to cut papers when I want to do deep thinking or when I am not in a good mood. Here are some of the patterns I created. By the way, the pack that I bought, it has 365 patterns, one day one pattern for the whole year. I am three months behind. :giggles:
Long time ago, I admired clowns who can make balloon sculpture. Now clowns are not the only one who can do balloon sculpture. I picked up this hobby when I found a book on how to do it. Now I am kind of an expert in it. It is very easy. You just need to be brave and not afraid of bursting balloons.
My children love those balloons sculpture. Most children love it. It can be used for party time. If your kids want to fight, create some balloon swords, they can fight all they want without physical injuries. :giggles:
Materials required are balloons, a good pump and a pair of hands. It is really fun, you can try it. Here is a gallery of patterns you can follow: http://www.professorwonder.com/gallery.htm and http://www.mbd2.com/kidsstuff.htm
Basically I love to do things with my hands like origami, beading, balloon sculpture, cards making, 3D deco and paper cutting.
A few months back, I was surfing the online florist for a special gift or a gift idea. However I pretty much had some lousy experience with online florist who did not delivered what was posted on their website. Besides that, it is pretty costly or should I say overpriced for the items sold.
I wanted to give something to a special friend on her birthday and I saw a bouquet of bears, not flowers. Something that is pretty unique. As I was shopping, I saw this shop having bears for sale. I grabbed some and created this bouquet as in the picture. The cost of material is not very expensive. It is 20% of what the online florist would sell. Hey do you think I can make money selling this in Ebay? How much should I sell it for? I want to rent some Ebay space to test the market.
By the way, it took me only 20 minutes to do a bouquet like that.
This used to be one of my hobbies during my free time. However I have been neglecting it ever since I have 2 hands full. I love making beads stuff. Oh you can also make personal cards with these beads ornaments on top.
That was what I did this weekend. I started a sofa cushion cover project. I regretted buying a pale color sofa because my children leave stains on it. I took it to the dry cleaner and they did the worst job ever. Instead of removing the stain, it got worst. I decided to do another set of covers on my own.
My aunt MIL gave loan me this sewing machine. It is an antique as you can see from the picture below. It is a hand sewing machine. I can only sew simple stuff like cushion covers or curtains. I don’t know how to do dresses although I would love to learn but no time. I remember during the old school days, I did sew an apron, house coat and a simple skirt. Yeah I did Home Science and I am proud of it.
Jasmine gave me another idea, she will give me a bean bag pattern to sew. I think I will do that right after this cushion cover project. By the way I have finished one cushion cover and will do another one next weekend. Then I will start on the bean bag. Bean bag are really expensive and over priced. I saw one cloth bean bag selling for > RM150. Maybe I can open a store just to sell bean bag.
Lanterns & mooncake festival is coming. You can tell, as the shopping mall is decorated with beautiful lanterns and selling mooncakes. I bought 2 traditional lanterns (baby & fish) for my children. Not the battery operated ones with noisy music. Every year without fail, my FIL will get those for my children. I still have the past years lantern that he bought and it is still in working condition. Now they have butterfly, dragon fly, flower basket and ultraman.
I love playing traditional lanterns. You lit up the candles and switched off all the lights. It is very beautiful. When I was young, I love playing with candles. You know what I did? I use can candles with my masak-masak set made of aluminum to cook rice. I will put a candle in between 2 match box, fill the masak masak pot with rice and water, put the pot to sit on the match box and let the candle heat up the pot to boil the water to cook rice. Isn’t that amazing? I was only 5 years old.
Here are some pictures of the beautiful lit up lanterns at my front porch.
My son picked a butterfly lantern and I picked a baby for my gal…
