Household Tips: Removing Gum From Hair

September 7, 2011 | Permalink | Comments Off on Household Tips: Removing Gum From Hair

Recently I read on my FB that a boy had gum on his hair and the mother’s maid cut off the portion of the hair leaving an empty patch. This is a common problem, somehow the gum likes to get into children’s hair. I remembered when I was young, I had the same experience. I suspect that my brother put it there.

Actually I read somewhere that you can remove the gum without chopping the hair. You can use ice to harden the gum and apply some virgin oil on to the hair with gum. The gum will somehow slip out of the hair. Others recommend peanut butter but I think that is way too messy.

Here is a video of how a mum remove gum from her child’s hair using olive oil.

Household Tips: Folding Underpants

September 6, 2011 | Permalink | Comments Off on Household Tips: Folding Underpants

I have discovered some method of folding underpants and would like to share with you. Actually the first method, I learn from my part time maid. It is very neatly done and you will not mess up your other underpants when you try to choose from the lot. It is like folding your socks. It does save a lot of space when you pack your underpants in your luggage too.

Here are the videos that were made by others on the fold. Enjoy and hope you have a more organized cupboard.

Look out for the next tip on this blog.

Penang Hard Rock Hotel CheckIn Not So Rock!

September 3, 2011 | Permalink | Comments Off on Penang Hard Rock Hotel CheckIn Not So Rock!

Recently I was really frustrated with the check in process at Penang Hard Rock Hotel. I made a reservation for a seaview room 4 to 5 months back, using my stage pass complimentary voucher. It is clearly written, if I booked on Sunday to Thursday, I am guaranteed a seaview room.

On the check in day, the front desk told me no seaview room. He argued with me that it is only based on availability. I am really annoyed that he didn’t know the stage pass terms and condition. He still insisted it was based on availability. Next he told me that I booked a hillview room. My reservation clearly stated a seaview room.

Then he asked me to wait 15 to 20 minutes. My family waited. He didn’t bother to update me after 30 minutes. I had to go to the front desk to ask again. After which he told me that he cannot get a seaview room for me. I asked him to escalate to his manager. He pulled along another staff.

I had to repeat my situation, she told me that she will check but need to wait another 15 minutes. I waited. Still no news after 15 minutes. I didn’t see any action being taken either, no updates.

By the way, I arrived at the hotel at 1:45pm, they finally gave me the room at 3:10pm. Lastly, one of the staff told me that the check in time was 3pm. The staff should have told me that upfront rather than asked me to wait 15 minutes after 15 minutes. They didn’t even bother to serve us any welcome drink while waiting. It really spoiled my entire stay at the hotel.

How To Frustrate Your Customer?

Early in the morning, I got a call from Citibank Malaysia. I wasn’t in a mood to talk to them because I work very late the night before and needed my beauty sleep. The sales agent and a Citibank called about my complaint.

It all happens a few weeks back when a credit card promoter approached me, asking me to sign up for the cash back credit card. I was being nice and hear him out. When signing up, every customer would look for the benefit of what the card can provide.

The agent told me:

  • A nice luggage bag and a knapsack for first 150 customers will be sent to me. No mention when.
  • $50 cash rebate back after 3 transaction made, to cover the govt tax.
  • Cash back as you pay for petrol (5%), groceries (2%)…etc.

After I signed up for the card, here are the extra T&C, not mentioned.

  • Luggage bag, after 3 transactions and wait after 6-8 week, the gift will be sent. Other banks, I get the free gift on the spot!
  • $50 cash rebate after 3 transitions and wait 60 days.
  • Cash back, you get it after collection of minimum RM50. By the way, I cannot find this policy in their website. Other banks, I get it REAL TIME.

Nice to hear all the good benefit but you still have to WAIT to get it. A few words for you Citibank, you can have the card back!

My New Thermal Cooker

August 13, 2011 | Permalink | Comments Off on My New Thermal Cooker

I heard so much about Thermal Cooker but never wanted to buy one because I am not sure that it will work. Last week, my credit card bank sent me the new rewards catalog and I spotted a 2.5L Thermal Cooker in there. I ordered it immediately to test out if it works. Good thing here is, it is free since I have points to redeem it.

Wow, it was delivered to me very quickly. The only stuff I can cook in my house is a packet of red bean. I soak the red bean for 2-3 hours. Put it into the Thermal Cooker inner pot to boil. Add sugar and orange peel. Boil about 10 minutes on stove and transfer it to the Thermal Cooker and lock it tight. The heat contain inside the thermal cooker will cook the food. Make sure you get a good brand.

I did this at 11pm. Next morning, I have red bean dessert…yummy…:P~~~

I also make ABC soup with it. This is cool with so little preparation. Best is I do not overcook my food and watch the fire. I’m liking this. Now I am looking for a 5L one. It does conserved a lot of energy.

Oh Libra Cruise!

I thought of treating my family to a 1 night cruise with Star Cruise Libra ship but it turned out to be a disappointment. Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t board the ship yet. I was surveying the price on internet to see how much I needed to spend.

They have standing rates for adult, anyone above 12 and do not need a cabin. It costs $142 per person, all inclusive during low season. The cheapest cabin rates are $202, all in.

Strangely, they do not have children rates! Yes no children rates below 12. The management force you to take a cabin and the rates charged to children is the cabin rates. If 2A and 2C go, it will be $202 * 4! What a rip off!! Ooops, cannot be a rip off if I didn’t make a booking. Children rates are more expensive than adult rates. Only Star Cruise Libra does that.

I wonder why SC management do not provide any children rates? They do it for Star Cruise Pieces and for Star Cruise Virgo, children travel free. Maybe they just want adult on board.

I feedback this to Star Cruise and they hit around the bush. Lastly, they told me that’s what management gave. No valid reason.

Big Screen

Finally I got my new work monitor running at home. When the new one came, I could not get it to display more than 1 minute. At first I thought it was the driver on my notebook. I installed a new driver and it gave my notebook a blue screen. Next I thought it was the power cable and I asked my colleague to get me 1. I tried it but it only display for 1 minute. Sigh!

I decided to call HP help desk. They came and replace it with a new unit. Cool eh? It took only 1 day for them to do it.

Now I can watch movie on this screen. Oops, I mean work. I have been having a lot of night tele-conferences and a big screen does help a lot!

My kids just watch Despicable Me on it and they love it to the max!

How To Fold Tissue Carnation

It has been a long time since I made one of these. I learn it when I was in secondary or was it primary. My sister ‘s friend thought me how to make it with tissue. It is really simple and I am sharing it with you.

Materials Required
1 piece of Tissue
1 long straight wire for the stem
A pair of scissors

Cut the tissue into half. I am using a 3 ply tissue. If you are using a 2 ply tissue, divide it into 3 pieces.

Stack it together.

Fold it like a fan. Wire the center to hold it together.

Start peeling the tissue upwards, layer by layer. And you have a beautiful carnation!

Oh SilkAir!

May 4, 2011 | Permalink | Comments Off on Oh SilkAir!

I was quite upset with SilkAir. I am not sure why SIA would want to subcontract their flights to SilkAir, maybe because it is much cheaper to operate. Now SIA do not fly from Penang to Singapore, they give it all to SilkAir.

First SilkAir does not provide early check in. They only open their counters 2 hours before flight time, making their passengers wait there.
The thing that makes me really upset was they knew I had a connecting flight in Singapore to US and they put me on the last seat at the back of the plane. My connecting flight was 1 hour away upon touchdown. They were late too!

I had to rush to get on the air train to go to the other terminal and ran to the gate to board the connecting flight. At that time, I wished I had taken hgh releaser to boost up my energy level. It was really frustrating.
