From WordPress 2.1.1 to 2.9.2
Yesterday, I finally upgrade this blog to the latest version of WordPress 2.9.2. Although I would love to stick to the classic version but I cannot because my web host wants to upgrade the PHP. The new PHP version does not support the classic WordPress version. Secondly, the security for the old version is not as good.
The user interface of the new version looks complicated. I think I jumped from 9 steps up. The tabs on the top move to the left side. The outlook is different. I suppose it has more features. I haven’t made my way in some of them.
Ooh, the way I upgraded it, you can never believe it. I just click a link and it does it for me. I didn’t have to crack my head. It only took 2 minutes.
Now I just have to get use to the new version until it gets really old.
What do I do without Google or any online search engine? I used it every day to get answers. A few months, I was trying to backup my blogs. When it hits 7.5 MB it stops. I used the export tool that comes with WordPress but it didn’t completely backup the entire blog.
I google for answers and I found some cool plugins. I found one which I installed to backup the database on WordPress itself. Now I do not have to go to cpanel to do it. The plugin is called WP-DBManager. It even allowed you to schedule your backup periodically so you will never forget.
However I wanted to save my posts into XML format for a reason. I couldn’t find the answer directly but it was one of the comments someone made on a plugin. He mentioned to increase the memory limit in wp-setting.php. Wow that does the trick. I increased it to 64MB and the export tool just worked. It is amazing.
I can say that the search engine is my online tech manual. You can find almost anything in the internet. I was able to hack my iPhone because of it. It saves me some money there too.
Most of us are using Google Reader or any other feed software to read blogs. I must say it is a useful tool to skip certain posts, if you get what I mean. However, it is also bad because traffic goes to Google Reader. We do not want that right. We still want visitors to come to our blog when they read.
Actually it is the flaws that most traffic stats that they didn’t measure the amount of visitors who used feeder to read your blog. I guess they should do that.
Ok to cut the story short, I am testing to only show summary on feeder and if visitors want to read the full story, please drop by. You scratch my back and I scratch yours. Everyone is happy.
How do you do that in WordPress? Go to Options -> Reading -> Syndication Feeds, check summary.
Thank you for all the awards that you bloggers have given to me. I have received 6 NICE AWARDS from Chinnee, Rachel, Tracy, Vien, Sharine and slavemom. One LOVE YOUR BLOG Award from Vien. I am hanging these awards at my sidebar.
This really makes me grin from ear to ear. Blogging is so fun now because I have made so many friends in the virtual world and nothing can take the friendship away. That is the most precious of all. Secondly we are all making extra cash by blogging by advertising products for companies. It is just so cool.
If anyone wants to join the wagon and do not where to start, talk to me. I am not a pro but I believe I can help you to start. By the way, I was so happy when I made the highest totaling US160 for one day.
Sad to say in the coming days, I many not have the time to spend blogging as I have new role in my full time job that may take up a lot of my time.
With the increase in ads networks for blogger to earn extra cash and for some a living, bloggers are blogging like mad. I was away for 4 days and my Google Reader has 300++ blog posts unread. 52 blog posts from one blogger is the highest I have in my Reader. I cannot imagine, some one can write more than 10 posts per day. It is really crazy.
I must say that Google Reader is the best reader I have came across. You can just add the blog url to the subscription without having to know the feed URL of the blog. Secondly, you can scan through the post by titles and do the reading there. The most important feature, you can skip sponsored posts. Opps, don’t let the advertisers know.
I know a lot of bloggers who have more than 1 blog, maybe 3-4 blogs. How do we readers keep up with those blogs? Not only that, I can see that many bloggers will sacrifice the quality of their blogs over $$. It is just so sad.
