Google Rank Made Simple

October 28, 2007 | Permalink | 9 Comments

Lately lots of major website was faced with page rank drop. Not to mention it affected the blogs network too. Some reduce from 5 -> 3, 4->2..etc. Now how does Google calculate and rank your website. I must say it is a complicated algorithm or formula. However, I bet there are human intervention too because there are sneaky and smart people who find ways to abuse the system.

Let me make it simple for you especially for those who do not have any clue about page ranking.

Google page ranking is dependant on a few factors like content, traffic, back links, outgoing links and other stuff put together. Content is basically what you write. If you write good content, people will link to you and by linking to you, other visitors may drop into your site to read your content. If you have many people visiting your site, that is call traffic. Traffic produces good ranks but this is not just it.

When other site link to you, it is call back links. Back links are very important to increase your ranks. Example if your site has lots of rank 4 sites linking to you, your site will eventually be rank 4. If you have lots of rank 3 sites linking to you, most likely you will be rank 3.

Outgoing links are the links you create on your site. The more link you have, the rank will be affected greatly. Therefore, link smartly. Links include paid links and other links too. You do want to link to other sites so that you can share with others your rank. By the way, I found that there is couple of bloggers who removed their links or blog roll which makes me think that they do not want to share ranks with others.

By the way, page rank is tie to the page and not entire domain. Some pages you get rank and some you don’t. If a blogger link to you using his/her PR 0 page, it means he/she is sharing PR 0 with you. Be smart.

There are things you should avoid doing and it is a BIG NO NO that Google will penalize you big time for it. Do not participate in any linking activities such as link farm or tags of linking to a whole bunch of people you do not know. I saw a lot of those kinds of tags and it does not help with your PR. Do not create post with bogus keywords or have hidden texts or links.

Lastly, do housekeep your sites with links and link smartly. Hope you have a good rank!

I am so happy today and really thankful to God. He has given me good health. My blood test result came back and I score perfectly. Everything is within range. Doc said I have good gens. My cholesterol level is low 3.7 and ratio of 1.93.Iron is back to normal, red blood and white blood are in range. Phew. Seafood, here I come.

Now I need to do more exercise. Lately I have been feeling tired easily. Maybe it is the time of the month. Anyway, if you are at my age, I suggest that you do an annual blood test and a bi-yearly full medical checkup. It gives a peace of mind.

Dream Vs Reality

October 20, 2007 | Permalink | 1 Comment

Someone once told me that how sure am I that I am not living in a dream and when I dream, it is not reality? Sometimes dream can be so real. I had this dream once. I was at the dentist, my teeth all fallen out. I don’t why, a couple of times I dreamt that all my teeth fell out all at once. How horrible.

The dentist was fixing it for me. He was kind and he didn’t criticize. I am always afraid of going to the dentist who criticized me for not taking care of my teeth well. Anyway, he asked me to rinse my mouth. After rinsing my gums begin to numb and he was holding an anesthetic needle. He gave me the jab and I woke up. Now am I in the real world or what?

HTML Made Simple

HTML is the simplest form of readable coding. For those bloggers who is not programming literate, you can pick HTML easily. Let me give you some simple tutorial.

There is a begin tag and an end tag. Begin tag is the start of the format and end tag is the end of the format. Say you want to want to bold a sentence “Hello World”.

<b> is for bold.
</b> a slash in front of “b” is end of bold.

<b>Hello World</b>

Try it on notepad and save it as file.htm. You can open the file using a browser to see the effect.

<img src=”http://mybabybay.com/pic.jpg”> – image (no ending tag for this)
<a href=“http://mybabybay.com/link.htm”>Link</a> – link
<b></b> – bold
<u></u> – underline
<p></p> – paragraph
<center></center> – center your text or image

You can find get the entire list from Google search.

Next a webpage is divided into sections.

<html></html> – doc

<head></head> – header, usually the will be in the header.
<body></body> – body of your page.

A typical page will look like this:

<html>

<head><title>Title of the Page</title>
</head>
<body>
<b>Hello World!</b>
</body>
</html>

To learn more, Google some basic HTML tutorial. I bet you will be an expert in no time.

Cheers To Good Health

Yesterday I received a SMS from the hospital reminding me that I have a doctor appointment today. Wow, since when they send out a reminder using SMS. Maybe we patients always forget our appointments and it is a good feature. Nope I am not charged for this.

Yes, it is my half yearly appointment with the doc for the rest of my life. Let’s see who will miss the appointment first, if you know what I mean. It is great to have the company pays for everything. Now I get a free yearly full blood test too. I hope I am as healthy as last year.

Why am I seeing a doctor? It is because I have my entire thyroid removed. I am on medication for life. It is not that bad and basically a normal person. I do not have any bad symptoms. I am not sure whether you consider getting hungry all the time and eating but never gain any weight, bad.

My friend told me that we often take good health for granted. We don’t really appreciate it until it is no longer there. It is just so true. Hey start appreciating your good health.

To Blog Or Not To Blog

October 10, 2007 | Permalink | Comments Off on To Blog Or Not To Blog

I believe blogging has gone to a whole new world, ever since paid post came into the picture. We used to write good quality post but sad to see many just writing for the sake of getting paid. I don’t deny that I often do that too. However there are lines I do not cross.

There are offers that I do not take such as gambling, pornography, alcohol and cigarettes paid post. In fact I reject a handful of gambling paid post that has a very attractive paid out. I mean I have to blog what is right, true to self and what to avoid.

As a parent, how can you teach a child not to gamble when I write or promote gambling sites in my blog. Lets us keep and maintain the value of our blog. Do not let money drive the value down.

My stand is even if someone offers to pay me more than 1K to blog about some gambling site. I will still not take the offer. Would you?

Happy At Last..

Knowing me, I never give up. I have been loyal to this back for more than 10 years with 1 credit card only. I am also a good pay master meaning I pay on time. However the support staff didn’t pay any attention to my history. *frus*

I called the bank HQ and ask them to channel me to credit card dept manager. Finally I got to speak to someone who give superb service.

Staff: Hello, how can I help you?
Caller: *state the history again…bla bla bla*
Staff: *do verification*
Staff: I will submit a request to waive your admin fees. *This is what I want to hear*
Caller: Can I cancel the supplementary card?
Staff: Yes, I will fax you the cancellation form.
Caller: Great. I spoke to your last 2 staff but they didn’t help me. It was really frustrating talking to them. I have been with your bank for a long time and I don’t really want to loose that relationship.
Staff: Yes, I can tell from your record and you are a good pay master too.
Caller: Thanks.
Staff: Is there anything else?
Caller: Nope and Thanks.

It took me the third call to get everything done. Anyway I will cancel the supplementary card. By the way, if you really want good service from a credit card company, remember to stick with one card, pay on time and have a good history. You be sure that management will waive any fees just to keep you. Otherwise change bank!

Dead End Service

Staff: Hello
Caller: Hello. I have a supplementary credit card when it was offered to me, the staff told me there is NO FEES. Now there is an admin fees on my statement.
Staff: Please may I have your credit card number.
*She did the verification, she asked me 5 questions. My fuse will blow if she asked me another one.*

Staff: Yes, starting this year, all supplementary cards will be charge an admin fee of RM30.
Caller: How come there is no notification send to your customer with regards to this fee? This is not acceptable.
Staff: Sorry madam. Everyone, even the staff gets charged with this fee for supplementary card. *She didn’t answer my question*
Caller: Can I have the fee waive?
Staff: No, you can get the annual fees waive but not the admin fees.
Caller: Can I cancel my supplementary card and cancel the admin fees.
Staff: You can write in to cancel your card.
Caller: Can I talk to your supervisor or manager?
Staff: No one is available right now. *same excuse every time*
Caller: Can you have them call me?

She took down my details but no call back. I called in them again in the late afternoon.

Staff: Hello
Caller: *repeat the history..bla bla ba*
Staff: Sorry, there is nothing I can do, all supplementary card required to pay admin fees.*He didn’t bother to ask for my credit card number or verify my records*
Caller: Can I talk to the manager*
Staff: All managers are in a meeting.

Isn’t this silly? The bank hires so many promoters and sales people to promote their credit cards and attracting them with gifts. Isn’t it a waste of money when they should be spending some money to train their support staff to keep loyal customers. Sad to say that the support frontline people are chasing customers away. It certainly doesn’t make sense. *shake head*

…to be cont…

Phones That Follow Me

October 2, 2007 | Permalink | 1 Comment

GiddyTiger pass this tag to me. Sorry guys I know I owe a lot of people many tags. I am trying to be selective about tags because I always have a struggle doing silly tags. Apparently this is an interesting tag.

Here is what I am supposed to do. List down the following:
1. The phone(s) that you owned previously
2. The phone(s) that you’re using now
3. The phone(s) that you’re looking at to replace the current phone

My first phone – Motorola

I remembered it was 1996, my sister wanted to upgrade her phone and pass me her old phone. Sorry I forgot what the model was. Hey it was more than 10 years. However the phone was good for cracking nuts. I didn’t like the charger, it was huge.

My second phone – Nokia 8210

It was my wedding gift. Both hubby and I bought each other Nokia 8210 with a portion of the wedding angpow that we got. By the way, we bought genuine Nokia. It lasted for quite a while. By the way, both my hubby and I are not a phone person. Imagine we have RM800 each on our phone. My best friend called me crazy and tried to help me utilize it.

One day I was watching Survivor on ntv7 and there was an SMS contest. It was the opportunity to exchange the money for some gift. In fact I won another camera phone with RM200. The phone cost above 1K. By the way, my hubby told his colleague about it and he won 2 phones too.

My third phone – Panasonic (Won from Survivor ntv7 contest)

It was my first camera and internet phone. With this phone, I downloaded some programs in the phone to allow me to chat using the Internet. Previously when they started GPRS, everything was free.

My fourth and current phone – Motorola V3X

I upgraded my phone because the Panasonic phone connector gave up on me. It was difficult to charge. I always like a flip phone and Motorola’s phone software which is why I chose V3x. It is also a 3G phone. I used the phone to surf and check my internet email. You can download Opera Mini a phone browser.

Next phone:

I am waiting for iPhone to have WiFi capability.

Now it is time for you to do this tag:

Shooi
Vien
ChooiPeng

Crystal

I love looking at crystal. It is beautiful and the reflection of the colors cheers me up. Two years ago when I was in Singapore, Swarovski Crystal were having a sale. I got 3 lovely figurine crystals. I wanted to get a flower too but I burst my budget. Hey guys, crystals are a great present for your love ones.

I can sit there for hours admiring the crystal. I would like to grow my collection one day.
